StepNode provides hosting services to clients worldwide, and we have a responsibility to protect each client and to provide the best services available. All registered clients of StepNode (stepnode.com) agree to and are subject to our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy and the following Acceptable Use Policy:
All services provided by StepNode may be used for lawful purposes only. Transmission, storage, or presentation of any information, data or material in violation of any United States Federal, State or City law is prohibited. Services provided by StepNode that reside outside of the United States must still abide these terms and must not be in violation of any relevant laws of hosting city, state and country. This includes, but is not limited to: copyrighted material, material we judge to be threatening or obscene, or material protected by trade secret and other statute. The subscriber agrees to indemnify and hold harmless StepNode and its employees from any claims resulting from the use of the service which damages the subscriber or any other party. Our acceptable use policy is actively and strictly enforced. Offending material or users are suspended and/or terminated from our network with or without prior notice.
Clients acknowledge that the service provided is of such a nature that service can be interrupted for many reasons other than the negligence of StepNode and that damages resulting from any interruption of service are difficult to ascertain. Therefore, clients agree that StepNode shall not be liable for any damages arising from such causes beyond the direct and exclusive control of StepNode.
Subscriber further acknowledges that StepNode's liability for its own negligence may not in any event exceed an amount equivalent to charges payable by subscriber for services during the period damages occurred. In no event shall StepNode be held liable for any special or consequential damages, loss or injury.
Illegality In any form, including but not limited to the unauthorized distribution or copying of copyrighted software or other data, harassment, fraud, trafficking in obscene material. Undesirable Content Certain types of content are not allowed on our network. We do not host adult content of any description. Content relating to Hacking, Cracking, Warez and IRC is not allowed. Software, audio and video downloads may only be hosted if you are the writer and copyright owner of the resources or you have a right to distribute the materials. Mail spam/abuse is not tolerated and will result in an instant suspension. Accounts/servers suspended due to content or AUP violation are not refunded under any circumstances.
The following are prohibited to be on our entire network, using or doing them on any of our products/services will result in an account and/or server suspension and/or termination without prior notice. We reserve the right to add and/or remove items on this list without notifying the client.
Whilst our network is often able to mitigate DDoS attacks, clients who are targeted with frequent and/or disruptive attacks may be suspended at our discretion. If your website and/or VPS is found to be degrading the connection speed of other clients, you will be asked via ticket and asked to reduce your usage.
The server resources allocated within our packages are not dedicated to you nor do you have the right to use all the resources. These are in place to prevent attacks and/or abuse from effecting other customers on the same host node. If you are consistently reaching these limits, we may ask you to upgrade to a more suitable service such as a VPS. We reserve the right to alter these limits without prior notice and the right to suspend accounts who are consistently reaching their maximum limits. Please open a support ticket if you're hitting your limits.
Outgoing mail on our cPanel host nodes are limited to 500 emails per hour/domain, this includes mailman lists and PHP mail. This will not be raised at client request, we reserve the right to raise or lower this limit without notice.
All web hosting servers run daily backups of cPanel accounts, this process happens during off-peak hours and may cause a decrease in server performance. We are not responsible for any performance decrease during the process, nor is it included within our uptime guarantee. We provide these backups as an emergency failsafe and cannot guarantee their availability.
In all VPS environments, CPU, network and disk I/O are shared among all clients. If your VPS is continuously stressing these and impacting the experience of other clients sharing the same host node, we will ask you to reduce your usage via ticket. Failure to respond may result in a forceful shutdown of your VPS. Load may be calculated by CPU traffic and/or I/O activity. Unusually high load causing a disruption may result in a reboot/shutdown if it is causing disruptions for others.
As all VPS servers are unmanaged, we may only assist/intervene when the following are negatively affected for a client/container:
